We had some excellent results this week. We were lucky enough to have James and Gareth from Sidhe Interactive for a two days each to give us much needed feedback and suggestions on game design and usability.
The team is making good progress with previsualisation and prototyping. The networked physics and the dynamic path finding are coming along nicely. We cracked the issue with Gamebryo's Bone LOD which is massive weight off everyones shoulders. I personally had a good chance to investigate the core framework required to get Gamebryo up and running. Gamebryo's reference counting system needs further investigation as it is causing our current sandbox to crash on exit.
The scope of the project is still worrying so it is looking like, much to my despair, the cover system will be culled from the game as well as the number of weapons and possibly the number of enemies.
The feedback from the two industry professionals was excellent and the team is grateful that they come up from Wellington and help us out. The advice about industry practice from Gareth and James and the play testing session which Gareth ran on the Friday were very valuable as well.
The most important feedback which we received from both Gareth and James was that the game sounds like it is going to be a really cool game!!
Roll on next week,
Project Manager Out.

That's really awesome that you could get some industry people to come and check out your progress. It must really help with the project scope.
ReplyDelete"invaluable" indeed!
